Featured in countless films and ads, Thailand’s beaches are renowned for their crystal blue water and picturesque views. Yet the country’s rapid growth in development and heavy tourism has littered the sandy shores with trash. In a bid to make a difference by raising awareness and reversing this unfortunate trend, we proposed Clean Up the Reef Day. OMG has had over 10 student-run trips to Koh Sak, a beach off the coast of Pattaya. Aditionally, a combined trip with numerous other schools in Bangkok is done every September.
In OMG we have recently beetn to a new location in Pattaya, Koh Rin which is in the Gulf of Thailand. It’s a small but diverse island with one of the best coral reefs in Pattaya. We have joined alongside an existing project; “Project - Save Koh Rin” with Gwyn to restore the island back to its natural state. Monthly beach cleanups are conducted to remove plastics and debris washed up onto the beach. Additionally OMG has railed together to provide two moorings for boats to protect the anchor damage of coral reef. Our future plan is to start releasing Turtles and Sharks as a part of a species re-introduction project and land based.
